Dr. Tamara Oppliger, PhD (aka Dr. O)
Clinical Psychologist & Owner
Welcome to Pivotal Therapy Practice.
At some point in life, we all feel stuck and need to pivot. Often when we are looking for solutions to our problems the sage advice is to try something NEW. Why? Because our brains respond to novelty — it helps us to adapt and manage stress. Therapy for many can be that reset.
However, it can be challenging to begin. It takes bravery, strength, and a willingness to admit that what you’ve been doing is not working anymore. But once you are ready, that’s where I come in.
I am a bilingual (English/Spanish) Clinical Psychologist located in Fairfax,Virginia. I provide in-person/virtual therapy and psychological testing services in Virginia for adults. Additionally, I provide virtual therapy and psychological testing for PSYPACT states, including Washington DC and Maryland.
I specialize in working with individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, eating disorders, and trauma. I provide adult comprehensive ADHD, trauma, and personality assessments.
I use approaches backed by research, including Cognitive Processing and Prolonged Exposure Therapy for trauma, Enhanced Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT-E) for eating disorders and Integrative Behavioral Couple Therapy for couples.
Areas of Focus
Therapy can help you in better managing your anxiety by becoming more present, flexible and grounded. Together, we will build your ability to tolerate life’s uncertainties and worries with more calm and ease.
Whether you are seeking support for one traumatic event, chronic trauma, or multiple traumatic events – therapy can offer a safe and supportive space to process what you have been through.
In therapy, you can begin to recognize unhelpful thoughts and patterns related to food and your body. We can work together to create meaningful behavioral changes for a healthier lifestyle.
Therapy can help you feel better by gently shifting unhelpful thinking patterns and helping you engage in activities you value. Together, we will work on increasing your self-esteem and rebuilding connections with supportive people in your life.
